Press Release 4/17/06
Citizens For Reduced Taxes has been formally accepted by the State of Florida as a Political Action Group which is the first of it’s kind in Gulf County. The Mission and purpose of our organization is simply to reduce Ad Valorem (Property) Taxes for all citizens in the county.
“Although the Millage rate has modestly decreased, the amount of Property tax has increased by 147% over the last five years and yet we have not received improved services to match that increase. In addition, no one at the county level can justify the spending of the Millions of Dollars they receive each year other than vague terms” says Jim Garth Chairman. Homesteaded and Non Resident property owners should be paying approximately half of what their tax payment has been regardless if it remained the same or decreased. No one is spared from this improperly calculated tax which is driving retirees, business owners and people who wish to live here away.
We wish to make everyone aware in Gulf county about the problems so that we can unite and make the necessary changes to insure we can all remain living here and that our Children and Grandchildren also have a chance to live here.
We would like to announce that a Town Hall meeting is held 7:00 p.m. Eastern time the fourth Monday of each month at the Senior Citizens Center in Port St Joe and at 6:30 P.M. Central Time the third Tuesday at the Wewahitchka Public Library. We will have a booth at the Tupelo Honey festival and the Independence on the Coast Festival. Visit our website www.citizensforreducedtaxes.com to learn more. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 1332 Port St Joe, FL 32457 for mailing of donations to help in this worthy cause.
